LMHC Board Member Sue Clifford (red jacket) celebrates with her little team of tree planters.

On Saturday, May 23/ 2015, several Tenants of the Southdale Community along with some LMHC Staff, Board Members and Laurier Students joined forces with Staff from ReForest London to beautify a small area of LMHC’s Southdale Community.

A small oasis of stone, shrubs and trees was completed to create a peaceful area for Tenants to relax and enjoy some nature. The event included face painting, bubbles and a fish pond for the little ones and was wrapped up with a hot dog BBQ for all to enjoy.

To all who participated during the middle of this beautiful Saturday afternoon and donated their time and/or materials, I would like to offer my personal thanks for your work in helping our community. I enjoyed the workout myself and was very happy to participate.

Last night the tenants at our seniors’ community at 30 Base Line Road West were the happy recipients of plants from the Friends of the Civic Garden Complex.

This nonprofit group gives tours of the Civic Garden Complex on Springbank Drive, and holds fundraisers to help support the complex’s greenhouse growing project.

This year they donated their extra plants to a number of tenants across the city, including three of LMHC’s properties. Besides 30 Base Line, our Marconi Boulevard family community and our Limberlost family community are also receiving plants for their balconies or yards.

Last night’s “Balconies Beautiful” event included a ice cream donated by the London Ice Cream Company and coffee from Tim Horton’s, as well as a demonstration of Tai Chi from the Horton Street Seniors’ Centre, and a fitness demonstration from the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON). The City of London’s Community Development staff have also been important partners in these events.

London and Middlesex Housing Corporation is very grateful to all the sponsors who helped make this event enjoyable for our tenants.

Although the weather forecast called for rain, it was sunny for our Summer Slam!

Yesterday was our annual Summer Slam at our Southdale family community.

Community partners organize this event each summer for our tenants. Activities include games for children and a community BBQ.

A big thank you to our many, many partners at Southdale, including the Southdale Chaplaincy, Families First, the Health Zone, the City of London, the Middlesex-London Health Unit, NRAWP, and the Salvation Army.
